I was inspired to create this collection by living alongside someone with a chronic illness. Watching her commitment to caring for herself—and her determination to show up as the best version of herself for her loved ones—moved me deeply. It led me to this place of creating art as a way to honor her story.
The spark came from wanting to work through the emotions that come with life’s difficulties, and to find a process that gave me peace and calm. These wreaths, inspired in part by Amanda Evanston, became the result.
Each one is playful and a little whimsical. Up close, they’re just smudges and details that may not make sense on their own. But together—maybe if you squint your eyes—they form something familiar and beautiful. Just like life.
For me, wreaths symbolize welcome and celebration. We hang them on doors to invite others in, or we notice them when we’re being welcomed ourselves. I hope that when you see these wreaths, you feel that same sense of warmth and joy—the holiday anticipation that something good is coming.
Creating them was also a lesson in patience. No two pieces are the same. Each one needed its own approach. Blobs slowly became flowers, layers built on each other, and eventually the paintings told me when they were finished. The number of layers surprised me, but it reminded me of something true: the most beautiful, interesting people are often those with many layers. We only discover who they fully are when we give them time and patience—just as we must give ourselves.
